Annual Fishing Trip '07

From The 17th to the 22th me and my dad went on our yearly fishing trip to a set of lakes about 100km into the timber. Sometimes we go twice a year, this trip was my 6th. The two lakes are in a beautiful shrouded forest dominated by evergreen trees and birch trees. The fishing pressure is low, only a few groups fish there every year. There is an abundance of waterfowl, squirrels, songbirds and the occasional bear and bald eagle to be seen. My dad started going there in 1982 then stopped at the end of the eighties, we started going again in spring 2004. We fish for lake trout and splake, this year we got a decent haul, all around 5lbs.

Looking out on the smaller lake from one of the banked shorelines

The resident pair of loons of the larger lake. They like to swim close to the boat in the calm bays.

The water in the glacial lakes is quite clear and clean. You can see to depths of 40 feet quite clearly.

A nice sized lake trout

The squirrel I saw frequently when walking the trail I blazed

One of the two hippie gulls that prefer the peace and tranquility of the wilderness to the average dump.

A small group of mallards with a gull in the background

The calm was beautiful.

The bald eagle we saw on the first night. Snapshot from the video I shot with my new camcorder.

I liked this shot of the fire. Boiling water for tea.
